Research Associate (m/f/d) Optical Metrology and Bioimaging

The ILM is an industry-oriented research institute within the Innovation Alliance Baden-Württemberg (innBW). Through industrial contracts and publicly funded research projects, it conducts applied photonics research in the fields of healthcare, analytics, and engineering.
The ILM is seeking to appoint, at the earliest possible date, a
Research Associate (m/f/d) in the field of Optical Metrology and Bioimaging
The position (75% TVL-E13) is initially limited to 2 years, but can be extended if necessary.

Your tasks:

  • Development of digital holographic and interferometric systems
  • Adapt existing optical measurement setups to specific research applications, including opto-mechanical design and control software
  • Develop control software and graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for automated measurements and image processing
  • Analyse and interpret measurement data
  • Prepare technical reports, scientific publications, and presentations of research results

Your profile

  • Master's degree or equivalent in engineering, physics, or a related natural science
  • PhD in Optics, Engineering
  • strong knowledge of technical optics and optical metrology
  • Programming skills for instrument control and data analysis (Python, C++, MATLAB)
  • Experience with CAD design using SolidWorks is an advantage
  • Ability to work independently, with a high level of initiative, reliability, and organizational skills
  • Ideally, experience in prototype development for high-speed inline phase-contrast imaging
